34. “Wannabe” by The Spice Girls

Song Year: 1996

One of the most recognizable melodies of the ‘90s comes to us from perhaps the most beloved British girl-pop band. It’s impossible not to have fun with this one.

35. “Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of…)” by Lou Bega

“Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of…)” by Lou Bega

Song Year: 1999

Based on a Cuban jazz/mambo tune from the 1940s, Lou Bega added his own twist to it in the late 90s for an unforgettable one-hit-wonder. Dancing girls, ostensibly the subject of Bega’s affection until he moves onto his next flavor of the week, infuse it with energy both in the music video and (hopefully) when you hop on the mic at your karaoke bar.

36. “Please Mr. Postman” by The Carpenters

Song Year: 1975

This version is a cover of the girl-band original by The Marvelettes. Less Motown and more singable, the Carpenters sing about waiting to get a message from their sweetheart, for a result both cutesy and horribly outdated.

37. “Psycho Killer” by Talking Heads

Song Year: 1977

Let’s face it: most songs Talking Heads do are weird and funny. This one, in particular, has that vocal pattern leading up to the chorus, then you get to wail at the end of it. Throw in some goofy dance moves, and you’ll be a hit.

38. “I Try” by Macy Gray

Song Year: 1999

Even though no one’s quite sure what’s so funny about this song, we all agree it brings a grin to our faces. Is it the misheard lyrics? Gracy’s strange vocal style? The way it’s so undeniably late-90s? Whatever the case, you’ll have the whole bar singing along.

39. “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” by They Might Be Giants

Song Year: 1990

This tongue-in-cheek band wastes no time indulging us in some Middle Eastern and verbal humor. A cheeky fiddle line, Turkish accents, and nonsense vocals make this one a karaoke favorite. Just be careful not to have too many drinks before you attempt the fast-moving lyrics.

40. “Good Lovin’” by The Rascals

Song Year: 1966

If you’re a fan of the oldies, this is a perfect option to be silly. The Rascals’ wild abandon when they sing and dance is fun to imitate, and you can even get a few of your friends (or the bar patrons) to chime in on the echo. Don’t miss the cheesy organ solo in the middle.

41. “I Got You (I Feel Good)” by James Brown

Song Year: 1964

Another song from the same era is Brown’s classic that defies you not to twist and wiggle as you sing it. His over-the-top character and the simplistic lyrics have made this a karaoke favorite for as long as it’s been around.

42. “Funkytown” by Lipps Inc.

Song Year: 1980

If you’re in the mood for a disco song, try “Funkytown” and watch everybody in the bar instantly wake up. We recommend that no guys try this one unless you have an amazing falsetto.

43. “Drunken Sailor” by Irish Rovers

Song Year: 2005

Repetitious, hilarious, and full of seaward fun, this traditional sea shanty is a great choice for a place where everyone is probably drinking anyway. Grab a few friends and get on the mic so you can properly execute the call-and-response format.

44. “London Bridge” by Fergie

Song Year: 2006

Filled to the brim with Yankee attitude, the music video features Fergie teasing the Buckingham Palace guards with her sex-kitten antics. Cheeky, sultry, and easy to sing, this semi-rap tune makes a great option if you don’t have a good sense of pitch. Just dance and have fun.
