“Mine,” from Swift’s iconic album Speak Now, is an upbeat love song about Swift’s tendency to want to leave a relationship thinking love is hopeless, then discovering that you can make love work.

This is especially depicted towards the end of the song, where she illustrates fighting with her partner and running away, expecting that to be the end of it.

However, in the story, the partner runs out after her, embraces her, and tells her that he’ll never leave. He’s in it for the long haul.

To be clear, Swift and Monteith never had that type of relationship, and Monteith stated on a talk show that they were just friends.

Given that, this is another song that fans speculate could’ve been inspired by meeting Cory Monteith, in that he might’ve helped her see how you can find love again amid a heartbreak.

Even if she didn’t fall in love with him, just having a crush or a fling with him could’ve made her feel open to love again, which is what “Begin Again” is all about.

It resonates with those who have experienced the pain of a failed relationship but found hope in starting anew, especially from just meeting someone new and inspiring.

Furthermore, many of the qualities she describes in this date also describe how people perceived Monteith. Laughing like a kid and thinking she’s funny.
