Is Rebellion as “high-powered” as it claims to be? Well, based on its feature set, it’s hard to argue.

For starters, this theme comes with nine homepage types to choose from. Though most of them feature a large photo at the top, I would be surprised if you couldn’t find one that’s suited to your purposes. You can even create your own, but I wouldn’t recommend doing so unless you’re an advanced user.

Rebellion also comes with plenty of inner page types to choose from, so you aren’t stuck with the same look and feel on every page on your website. Not surprisingly, it integrates with WooCommerce as well.

What Should I Look For In A WordPress Theme?

There are essentially three things I look at whenever I’m thinking about buying a WordPress theme. Let’s explore these criteria together.

An Attractive Design

I started building websites in 1997. I later co-founded a small web and graphic design company, and spent years learning about the industry and discipline.

As content management systems became more popular, I started experimenting with Movable Type and WordPress. When I was still using Movable Type, I didn’t bother finding themes. I just customized the default theme until I liked how it looked. That worked just fine.

But I was under the delusion that I would be able to do the same with WordPress. And, you know what? It’s a real pain to try to redesign a WordPress theme. If you aren’t happy with what you’ve got, it’s a lot easier to find a theme you like than to try to tweak the one you’ve got.

So, whatever theme you end up buying, ensure that you’re happy with it. It may not be everything you imagined, but if it comes close, you can often often take it over the finishing line. Yes, themes today are quite customizable, but if you don’t like the look and feel of your theme to begin with, endlessly tweaking it probably isn’t going to fix the issue.

Make it a priority to find a theme you like. You’ll have fewer regrets and issues that way.

A Theme With The Functionality You Need

Many themes mentioned in the above list come with the kitchen sink – music players, visual composers, sliders, social media and eCommerce integration, and a great deal more.

The bottom line here is you only need what you need – nothing more, nothing less.

The more options you have, the more fussing about you can do. You can just keep on tweaking and tweaking until your website feels right. Pretty soon you’ve wasted the whole day just getting the logo to look exactly how you want it to.

There are themes, like the Music WordPress Theme, that are easier to work with, and limit your options. If you tend to be a perfectionist with websites, then this might be a better option for you than Lush.

If you’re an advanced user, and you’re familiar with WordPress, then a more fully-featured theme might be a good option for you.

A Theme That’s Within Your Budget

To be fair, most themes are going to be in the $10 to $70 range, and they shouldn’t run you more than that. That shouldn't break your bank.

But if you’ve never spent money on a WordPress theme before, you might feel a little weird shelling out your hard-earned cash for it.

The way I look at it is this – if you’re not spending any money to advance your career, you’re probably not a pro yet. The moment you start spending is the moment you change your mindset from being an amateur to being a pro.

But so long as you’re paying for your theme, it doesn’t necessarily matter how much. Virtually every paid theme is better than the free ones you can find on the WordPress website.

So, find a theme that meets your other criteria, and is also within your budget.

The Best WordPress Themes For Musicians, Final Thoughts

Ultimately, the best WordPress theme is the one that’s a good fit for you. No one can tell you what that is without knowing what your needs or goals are. If you find it easy to work with, even when others don’t, it doesn’t matter what other people say.

Spend some time looking at the options that are out there. Look at the design, as well as the functionality it offers. Then, consider whether it’s in your price range.

Most themes, even if they are made to sound like they are “plug and play”, usually require some initial setup work. So, be prepared to spend some time getting things how you want them to look. But if you find yourself spend hours on end setting it up, you may want to look elsewhere.

WordPress runs roughly 29% of the entire internet. So, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of it.

In fancy technical lingo, it’s a Content Management System (or CMS). Some people just refer to it as a blogging platform.

But truly, you can do far more with WordPress than you might be inclined to think. It works great as a blogging platform, sure, but you can also build entire websites with it, and even add a membership component if that's something you'd like to do.

The primary way to customize the look and feel of your site is with themes. Though there are plenty of free themes out there, the problem with these is they are easy to break, and everybody is using them. So, in most cases, it’s much better to purchase a premium theme that won't malfunction and is at least somewhat unique to you.

The good news? You generally don’t need to spend an arm and a leg on a theme. Plus, all of the above are one-time costs, so if you’re happy with the theme you buy, you probably won’t be buying another any time soon.

Ok, so now you've got a well named website and it looks great. The next step is to set up tracking if you haven't already so you can see where you visitors are coming from.

P.S. Remember though, none of what you've learned will matter if you don't know how to get your music out there and earn from it. Want to learn how to do that? Then get our free ‘5 Steps To Profitable Youtube Music Career' ebook emailed directly to you!
